I love the autumn. It’s a time of change. And change has recently come into my life.
At the end of October, I resigned from my developer position at an advertising agency to start my own web design and development firm. So on November 1st, I began working from home, growing a business with my values, my culture. Exciting, yes. Scary, definitely.
I read the fantastic book Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose by Tony Hseih of Zappos fame, and it really inspired me to write down the core values of my new company. While I won’t list them all here (at least, not right now, one of the values is to think. That’s right, think. I recently read a fantastic piece on the Behance network about our lack of downtime and thus the extinction of deep thinking in our society. In it, the author states that, “[b]rilliance is so rare because it is always obstructed, often by the very stuff that keeps us so busy.”
My hope is that the refreshing of this site into a new blog will help me think. I so rarely do any writing that is less than 140 characters; this long form will force my brain to work in new, challenging, inspiring ways.
This blog will chronicle my journey through this new phase of my career and life (and I, of course, reserve the right to be random from time to time).
